Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have actually been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a home in Glengormley.

A man was spoken with by department officers about illegally importing and subsequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines via the internet.

The 47-year-old was also about other medication offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is important that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be dangerous.

"These types of items being offered, typically online, have gone through no quality assurance and there can be no guarantee about their security.

"You merely do not know what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not understand the effect drugs like this might have on your health."
